Welcome to our new and regular series of whisky reviews brought to you in association with Loch Fyne Whiskies, and written by very own correspondent Rob Bruce who lives in Scotland and brings 20 years of drinks industry experience to this tough and terrible task!
Our aim is to take the drama out of dramming, and to make the complex world of whisky more concise so you can choose the Scotch that’s right for you with absolute clarity and confidence.
Launched last year, the Craigellachie 13 is much revered by those that love the more challenging and “burnt” style whiskies. Not for the faint hearted or the novice, however for those that love the traditional and hanker for the good old days, this is the whisky for you.
A big smokey dram offering the taste of a bygone era. Quite herby and woody with the edge softened by apple flavours. It’s a fiery wee number that requires an experienced hand to tame it, but once mastered it will be savoured for a long long time in the nose and the mouth after swallowing.
