Sunriver, Oregon is one of the hidden gems in the Pacific Northwest—a little slice of Heaven along the Deschutes River, which boasts world-class golf courses, geological and ecological wonders, and five-star restaurants which rival any major city.
This is among the many reasons why my colleague Laura Rebecca and I chose this location for our Relax, Renew, and Recharge Retreat in July!
We will be hosted by Sunriver Resort, a 3,300-acre upscale resort with views of the Cascade Mountains. Sunriver Resort claims it is “the start of the unforgettable”, and it does not disappoint! The Resort boasts multiple outdoor pools, where you can swim, or relax in the stone hot tubs that overlook Mount Bachelor and its ranges. While home to the famed Crosswater Club, a Golf Digest Top 100 course, its other Summer activities are top notch and include cruiser bike rides on the 30 miles of paved trails, horseback rides with the folks at Sunriver Stables, rafting or canoeing down the resplendent Deschutes River, and enjoying locally made ice cream at Goody’s at the Village at Sunriver.
For more mellow pursuits, the Resort houses the Sage Springs Spa, where you can get a massage or other skin and body work done.
The town of Sunriver boasts the epitome of farm-to-table fine dining at Sunriver’s new restaurants: Carson’s American Kitchen and the Twisted River Tavern. Or you can just sit and enjoy drinks by the fire at The Living Room, which looks over idyllic meadows.
The Sunriver Nature Center offers a close-up view of live owls, raptors and other wildlife in addition to an easy and interpretive nature walk through old growth trees whose history extends skyward. Sunriver is only 5 miles from Lava River Cave and 8 miles from Lava Butte, a perfect day trip excursion! The history at the Lava Lands Visitors Center is phenomenal—from the top, you can look out over a sea of volcanic lava rocks frozen in time after Lava Butte erupted more than 7,000 years ago.
The Trail of Molten Lands winds through the eruption aftermath, giving you the chance to walk on the same surface astronauts walked upon when training for the moon landing in the 1960s.
If you are a city dweller, you can get a glimpse of the moon like you’ve never seen it before at the Sunriver Oregon Observatory. The retractable roof allows you to gaze into deep space through one of a dozen telescopes while astronomers on staff explain the skies.
If none of the activities and amenities sound tempting, then perhaps the weather will draw you in. In the dog days of July, when most of the nation is sweltering under high temperatures and stifling humidity, the highest average temperature in Sunriver is 70 degrees. Most of the rain happens in June, making July not only gorgeous, but incredibly fresh and green, with an air quality index that is 35 percent better than the national average, and a pollution index is 98 percent better than the national average! So if you come for nothing else, your lungs will thank you.
Now, who wouldn’t want to spend a few days away from the hustle, unplug and refresh, and immerse themselves in a beautiful, rustic setting, away from the grind and the noise of urban life? With the added bonus of a Yin-Yang Yoga retreat, it is akin to Buttercream icing on a delicious layer cake.
Our Relax, Renew, and Recharge Retreat is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the delights of Sunriver, and immerse yourself in a world outside your own, while basking in some of the finer things of life.
From Thursday, July 6 to Monday, July 10, 2017, you not only have the chance to explore Yin Yoga, Power Yoga and participate in some life-changing workshops, but you get to do it in the splendor of the beauty and liveliness found at the Sunriver Resorts. The retreat focus includes morning Yin classes led by Laura, and evening Flow classes led by me. Laura will guide a workshop on Digital Detox, where you will gain resources on how to unplug, even in the most chaotic of settings; I am graced to lead a workshop on how to use Prayer Beads of all kinds to encourage and facilitate meditation and stillness, as well as sharpen memorization. For more experienced Yoga practitioners, there will be an advanced modifications and assists workshop to move your own practice to the next level;, and the days will end with a Chakra exploration and tuning, allowing you to delve more deeply into what makes you tick, and how that can inform and transform your Yoga on and off the mat. The practices are designed to move more slowly and hearken back to the individual model of Yoga instruction, where customization and hands-on assistance was given by an experienced and dedicated instructor to their student. The practices and the workshops are not only an unmatched experience, but will equip each Retreatant with tools, mechanics, and reserves that they can take back to their individual worlds and lives, and use to help transform others as they have been transformed.
We have customized the Retreat for individuals and groups of friends, with choices of single, double, or suite occupancy. Suites have lofted bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchenettes that include a refrigerator and stove for those who prefer to craft their own meals. Four days of breakfast will be served outside of the Heritage Gallery, where we will hold our Yoga and workshops sessions. Four nights of dinner will be served in the resplendent Lodge fireplace room. Both options are included in the price points for all Retreatants and include meat, chicken, fish, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
This once in a lifetime opportunity is filling fast, so book your spot NOW will guarantee you the space for unforgettable memories and fresh experiences on and off the mat.
